live set drop box!!

27 10 2011

just got back from playing in brussels @ cafe central, great gig with a bunch of folk on various modular setups, great atmosphere…

so i recorded my live set and realised i need somewhere to put these things, ill add extras is i go along and put them in the audio section.

so dropbox links it is.

this is my set fom cafe central

this is a demo i did for plex    im putting this up primarily as its a different kind of set, less banging mainly!!

rave factory d’n’b round

22 10 2011

ok so i realised quite quickly that d’n’b is impossible on an 8 step sequencer – so from then i went on a journey into what i thought was a bit like the essence of liquid d’n’b….or something…struggled ill say, nearly got on a chase and status singing vibe but listening back got the better of me. this isnt d’n’b basically, not at all really. the judges comments said as much. but….it is a nice tune, just not d’n’b

anyway my “d’n’b” entry is:

baudein

its knock out time in the competition now too so this may be the end of the road!!!

next round is (thankfully) ‘hard as nails’ though – something that i can do!! just played at tinnitus in sheffield tonight – maybe put a chunk of that set up as the tune……..

urban exploration live video

27 09 2011

audio – live from bridgnorth festival. video by micoland.

bridgnorth festival interview

21 09 2011

interview by local internet station for the bridgnorth festival. they interviwed me about my set but put an old urban exploration (not all of us jamming) tune on the video and reckoned the interview was about urban exploration. which it was supposed to be, but wasnt cos they kept asking about my kit. the guy loves synths though, think that was the problem, gear lust got in the way of good reporting!!

there will be some of the set being put up on soundcloud soon, an a video to follow. ill put that on when it happens

new genre created!!

8 09 2011

maybe? i never heard this kind of thing anyway. please people correct me if im getting over excited…..

anyways been wondering how to do something with footwork, i like it but its irritating most of the time, the cut up, repeated pitched vocal thing, uurrrghhhh!!! rank. so short repetitive kinda itchy yes but different somehow. then i happened upon this idea:

syncopatien A

so yeah kinda techno, kinda footwork but 3 step over 4 step basically

also did

syncopatien B

this ones 5 step over 4 step with a bit of 7 over 4. not as easy to get into but still working on the protracted techno theory. that being that you just need 4-4 and hang anything off it in any direction. so im stripping that further to be just 4 time for a snare (and kinda the hats) but keeping repetition as the focus.

im gonna do a load more in the 3 over 4 version cos i think thats got legs. im gonna try other off timings too as its something ive been into for ages, only did these tracks for the bleep filtered competition and wanted to do something “different”, and easy to work vocals to as timings not really an issue, you just lay anything on top an it kinda seems in time.

so whats the genre?

syncopation.

watch this space for a load more.

rave factory round 2!

8 09 2011

yes i got through to the second round – techno be its name. no i didnt make the ‘in the beginning there was a sine wave’ tune. realised very quickly that its gonna take a long time and a lot of editing that one…….

also realised my eleventh hour attempt was as weak as the proverbial weak object so went for a solid contender i had in reserve. a great rolling techno tune that i had to slow down by 10 bpm to get under the 160bpm speed limit!!

get dead

vote at this link above !

the next round is 6th september – 2 step garage mutant bass. might just have to start editing on a computer soon cos thats gonna be a hard one to do live….

i love kanji kinetic and that whole bassline kinda style, so looking foward to this but like i say, tough one to do right and theres a few people on the line up that’ll make a killer job of it i think – junglismonk and killerbomb.

chinese whispers project

21 07 2011

this is the title of a remix project im involved with for interakt records . ive just sent them a bunch of sounds and short loops, these get sent on to the next producer, he makes his mark, then to the next and then once more to someone to pull it together into a tune to be pressed onto vinyl along with another 3 tunes done via the same process.

this is all in aid of ‘youth music’ a charity using music to help disadvantaged children. folk on board:

1.  Si Begg (Nooldles, Mosquito, Tresor)
2.  Carl Finlow (Device, SCSI-AV)
3.  Headcleaner (Terra Recordings, Rephlex)
4.  Cursor Miner  (Lo Recordings, Uncharted Audio, Combat)
5.  Baconhead    (Acroplane, Umbrelladelika Recordings)
6.  Pathic         (Pyramid Transmissions)
7.  Kero (Detroit Underground, Shitkatapult, Neo Ouija)
8.  Monster X      (Combat, Tigerbeat 6)
9.  Tim Exile     (Planet Mu, Beta Recordings, Warp)
10. Flint Kids    (Interakt)
11. Proem (Merck,n5MD)
 12. Otto Von Schirach  90%   (Schematic, Cock Rock Disco)
13. ADJ (Touching Bass, Pyramid transmissions)
14. Scanone    (Yellow Machines, Combat)
15. Anklepants      (QWERTY, Interakt)
+one more as yet unconfirmed

i dunno yet who my parts will be sent to, its all gonna be quite a surprise in the final play i think!!

im also gonna pass the same parts onto a different selection of remixers just for fun to see just how disperate (or not) the results are.

rave idol update/voting

20 07 2011

ok so its not called rave idol – that was last time. its rave factory. anyways audition was aired, they listened to my tune and….. not a bad word to be said! since i didnt tell them how id made my tunes was quite nice to hear that the production was “as it should be” and that “there some really interesting drum editing going on”. i cant edit or post produce so shows the modular theory is passable!!

good, intelligent comments from the panel on all the tunes actually and well worth a listen from an educational perspective to see how your feelings on the tracks compare as far as production, arrangment etc. – there are 29 tunes quite varied, and its 2 an half hours mind!!

anyways deal is to vote you have to buy the track for 23p which is split twixt artist and ill fm. if anyone wants to vote for me/buy the track you can do it here

next round is techno so im working on a track for then (everyone has to put a track in whether you get voted on or not) titled something like ‘in the beginning there was a sine wave’.  wack title but thats the lyric anyway. tell you what, wait for the tune eh? 10th august.

rave idol audition

12 07 2011

yes just what it sounds like – but not some simon cowell douche-a-like but instead run by  ill fm on their show, rave factory.  ill fm got some great stuff to stream by people you almost certainly never heard before.

this the 2nd year of rave idol, it be a different genre every month and those involved got that time to submit a tune and then a panel of experts in that field give their opinions round table style, then the listening public make their votes on the web and folk get axed as per usual format… and then vinyl put out for the winner!!

well, my audition is in. tune i entered is they call it acid

be great just to hear some genuine industry style comment on tracks, but well, lets see if i even get to round one!!

show and voting here
